JEPPE AND THE LORD IN SHORTS

JEPPE AND THE LORD IN SHORTS
    A Bitter Comedy

7 men, 7 women (may be played with a smaller number of actors)

The highly celebrated comedy “Jeppe of the Hill” by L.Holberg was but one source of inspiration for this brand new play by Vlastimil Peška, which has as its subtitle “A Bitter Comedy”. We are witnesses to a tale whose hero is the music teacher nicknamed Jeppe, and meet his wife, daughter, co-workers, and friends. Through its play-within-a-play format, we participate in the key events of his life, which prove to be often hilarious though at times poignant, just as our real-life experiences attest. The play provides the shining opportunity for a true theatrical concert on the part of the hero. It’s worth noting that the author was moved to write this comedy alone on the occasion of his jubilee birthday.
