THE HUSOVICE NATIVITY

THE HUSOVICE NATIVITY  (in Brno dialect)

4 men, 3 women (may also employ a greater number of actors)

This charming Christmas play featuring not just acting but also song and caroling, was inspired by folk Christmas plays from Moravia and tales told by the author’s grandmother. Its magic lies in, amongst other treats, its authentic Brno dialect, still used by the older inhabitants of Brno today. (Please note! This is not to be confused with the so-called Brno hantec, but is rather a dialect very similar to “Haná” speech.) It’s a given that for such a play involving the birth of Jesus, all the familiar characters are present, for the story simply wouldn’t be the same without them. Thus the shepherds, angel, Herod, the three kings, a devil, a Hebrew and a cop.
