DOWN IN THE DUMPS

DOWN IN THE DUMPS

crazy corruption comedy featuring singing and ballet
8 men, 6 women (may employ more actors and actresses)

The subject of the comedy stems from the legacy of A.N. Ostrovský and from more recent political events. The plot of this wild comedy about the exploits of two prominent politicians and their adventures unfolds within the four walls of an uninviting institutional room. The politicians are now very old men, and replay the highlights of their checkered lives through reminiscences and dreams. Their recollections liven up, permeating and melting away the walls of the room. All of this takes place in the year 2045.

The play provides a novel take on the excessive and still-unfolding corruption and tunneling scandals, staged as a crazy comedy penned by an experienced author. This comedy offers up not only surprising plot twists, but most importantly an evening of laughter, good humor and perhaps a little reflection on the naked greed that leads to human predation.

The comedy arose out of a commission for the Horácké Theater in Jihlava.
